Please read carefully to understand how you can take care of most situations by yourself and maintain your oral health until stay at home orders are lifted and it is safe for all of us to get back to our normal life. 

Here are some of the common dental problems and the first aid that could be done at home, if the steps are followed properly:

Wisdom Tooth Pain

  1. Gargling with salty water will help ease the pain
  2. Painkillers, but call us before using them
  3. Antibiotics might be needed if there is any kind of swelling
  4. A soft-diet might help


Tooth-ache

  1. OTC painkillers, after consulting your dentist
  2. In case the patient is tested positive for COVID 19, it is better to take paracetamol over ibuprofen


Tooth Sensitivity

  1. Incase of sensitivity to cold or hot, a toothpaste like Sensodyne might help
  2. Anaesthetic gels like colgate pain-out will also come to rescue


Ulcers

  1. A chlorhexidine mouthwash might help ease the pain
  2. Anesthetic or anti-microbial gel might help
  3. Thorough cleaning is needed( sometimes this might be painful)
  4. Salt and warm water gargles can help
  5. Most ulcers get cured within 7-10 days

Bleeding Gums

  1. Bleeding gums are not a panic situation, it is important to be calm
  2. A good dental hygiene is a must to deal with this situation.
  3. Brush twice a day, use chlorhexidine mouthwash 15ml ( diluted ), 20 minutes after brushing

However, if the following situations occur, then it is a Dental Emergency. We would suggest to seek Dental intervention as soon as possible for the following situations:

  1. Toothache that is preventing you from sleeping or chewing, and it is not getting any better with any painkillers
  2. Bleeding due to trauma, broken tooth, tooth fallen with pain
  3. Any toothache leading to some kind of swelling
